Margaret Brown

Margaret Brown (formerly known as Margaret Johnson) is one of the founding Orchestra Directors in McKinney ISD. Formerly, she was at Irons Junior High School in Lubbock, TX. She began the Irons Orchestra when the school opened in 1989 and helped it grow into a Sweepstakes Award winning program, including a chamber music program as well as a full orchestra program. Ms. Johnson held previous positions in Grand Prairie and Tyler. She served as Conductor of the Lubbock Youth Symphony String Orchestra and also as the Master Teacher for the Texas Tech String Project, which is an ASTA originated national project that recruits and trains future orchestra directors. Currently serving as TexASTA President and previously served as TexASTA Treasurer.  She also has served as Region 16 TMEA Secretary and Orchestra Chair, in addition to adjudicating and being a clinician across the state for various All Region orchestras. Ms. Johnson earned the Bachelor of Music Education from Texas Wesleyan University where she studied with Dr. Robert McCashin, and the Master of Music from Texas Tech University where she studied with Dr. Virginia Kellogg. Memberships include Mu Omicron, TODA, TMEA, TMAA, ASTA, SAI and MENC. Honors include "Who's Who Among American High School Students," "Who's Who in Music," "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" and "Who's Who Among American Women."
